Parallel Operation of Hydro Turbines
In the mid 1980s, I had the pleasure of
working with three Norwegian hydro engineers. Nils Petersen is a
hydro-electrical engineer, Olav Hotvedt is a hydro-mechanical engineer and Per
Franing is a hydro-civil engineer. In Norway, they have a highly
specialized university at Tromsk that specializes in the training of hydro engineers.
Nils Peterson made the following mathamatical analysis
of the parallel operation of two hydro turbines. It is an elegant analysis that
predates personal computers. The curves were actually produced on a light table
with graph paper and the first and second derivatives of the power curve were
hand plotted!
